1. What’s the difference between a dog trainer and a behaviourist?

A dog trainer educates caregivers to be able to show their dog companions skills and actions. A behaviourist addresses emotional or behavioural issues such as fear, aggression, or anxiety.

2. What training methods do you use?

I use force-free, positive reinforcement methods... rewarding good behaviour with praise, treats, or play. I do not use punishment or aversive tools.

3. Can you help with rescue dogs or older dogs?

Absolutely! Whether it’s a rescue adjusting to a new life or an older dog learning new habits, training is possible and beneficial at any age.

4. What kind of issues can you help with?

Common issues include pulling on the lead, not coming when called, barking, separation anxiety, fear-based behaviours, and reactivity towards dogs or people. Please do contact me and tell me about you dog companions' behaviours.

5. Do you offer one-to-one sessions or group classes?

Yes! I offer both one-to-one sessions tailored to your dog’s needs and small group classes for social learning and skill-building.

6. How long will it take to see results?

That depends on you! I can only educate and show you what to do. Having all the best intentions in the world at the start is super, though learning and reeducating is a journey. A dog may have rehearsed a lot of the behaviour over and over again, which means patience is needed. Once you start the process, don't give up. Some progress happens quickly; deeper issues may take longer. Consistency and patience are key.

Learning will need to be continued throughout your dog's life. No behaviour just stops.

Please don't contact me if you want instant results, train a dog with harmful equipment and harsh methods.

If you would like to progressively help your dog companion's behaviour, manage situations whilst they grow confidence and continue to see a true relationship between both you and your dog, then please get in touch.

7. What should I bring to a training session?

Before your first session, you will receive a Welcome Newsletter with all you need to know about it and more!

8. My dog is aggressive/reactive, can you still help?

Yes. I work with dogs of all different types of reactivity. I use calming, reward-based techniques to build safety, trust, and alternative behaviours.

9. Do you work with puppies?

Yes! Early training helps prevent future issues. I offer pre-sessions before you get your puppy, settling-in and nurturing sessions on a one-to-one basis. Then you have the decision whether to come to our Discovery School group, or if the timings don't suit, I can teach Discovery on a one-to-one basis. Sessions focus on confidence-building, socialisation, and life skills. Further on, if your puppy is ready, we will invite you to the Skills for Life Club. This is a monthly membership where you can set goals, ie lead walking, recall etc and continue learning in a supportive environment.

10. Where do sessions take place?

Group sessions can take place at Littlethorp Scouts Building, Narborough, LE19 2HR. Or one to one sessions at your home, in a secure outdoor space, or a neutral location, depending on your dog’s needs and the type of training.
